Heritage Auctions’ July 16–18 Hollywood/Entertainment Signature® Auction realized $23.54 million, the second-highest-grossing Entertainment auction in history, and helped push the week’s combined total to $24.96 million when paired with the July 15 Treasures From the Cecil B. DeMille Lifetime Collection sale. The sale was led by Orson Welles’ screen-used Citizen Kane “Rosebud” sled at $14.75 million including buyer’s premium.
The multi-day series opened July 15 with the DeMille event ($1.4 million) and continued with three sessions July 16–18 that spanned cinema’s most recognizable icons. Notable results included Robert Peak’s original key art for Apocalypse Now at $687,500; a screen used I Dream of Jeannie genie bottle at $400,000; Harrison Ford’s screen-matched Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade bullwhip at $525,000; and a Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back Red Five X-wing filming miniature at $375,000.
Heritage now holds the records for the top six Entertainment memorabilia auction totals, underscoring the depth of demand across screen-used props, key art and celebrity artifacts. “What we witnessed this week was a celebration of legacy, vision and storytelling,” said Joe Maddalena, Heritage’s Executive Vice President.
The result underscores Heritage Auctions’ position as a leading venue to sell entertainment memorabilia, screen-used props and film art.
