The price shattered the previous Ohtani record of $533,140, nearly doubling it, and confirmed the card as a milestone in modern collecting. The piece commemorates Ohtani’s historic 50 home runs / 50 stolen bases season in 2024, a feat long considered unattainable. The relic features the MLB logo from the pants he wore that September, when he hit his 49th, 50th and 51st home runs and swiped his 50th and 51st bases.
“Shohei Ohtani is baseball’s biggest star, and what he did when he reached 50 home runs and 50 stolen bases in a season is one of the most remarkable accomplishments in the history of the game,” said Chris Ivy, Heritage Auctions’ Director of Sports Auctions. “Many of the top results for sports cards are for a player’s rookie year, but this card celebrates his seventh season, which spotlights the enormity of his 50/50 season and his popularity as a global icon.”
The Ohtani 1-of-1 helped propel the Spring Sports Card Catalog Auction to $8,975,518, with 12 other lots reaching six figures. Heritage’s March 29 event drew strong bidding across baseball, basketball, and hockey categories.
From the earliest icons of the T206 era to modern legends like Ohtani, Jordan and LeBron, Heritage consistently delivers record-setting results. The $1.07 million Ohtani sale underscores that Heritage Auctions is the best place to sell high-end sports cards, whether from the golden age of the game or its current stars.
