Heritage Auctions celebrated the largest Fine Jewelry sale in its history when the Sept. 29 Fall Fine Jewelry Signature® Auction finished at $9,220,693. The marathon event ran just under 12 hours and drew more than 1,900 bidders competing for 500-plus lots.
Leading the day was a 41.54-carat fancy dark brown–greenish yellow diamond in a platinum ring with 18k gold prongs that realized $625,000, soaring past its high pre-auction estimate of $150,000. Classified among rare Type 1aAB diamonds noted for high hydrogen and nitrogen concentrations, the hydrogen-rich “whiskey-colored” stone is believed to be the second-largest recorded of its kind. “This is a museum-worthy jewel for the connoisseur of natural diamonds and rare phenomena,” said Jill Burgum, Heritage’s Executive Director of Fine Jewelry.
Other standouts included a 12.55-carat diamond ring that realized $300,000; a nature-inspired jewelry suite attributed to Paul Flato once owned by film star Irene Dunne, which brought $275,000; and a Bvlgari bracelet formerly owned by Shirley Temple Black, which sold for $87,500. Additional highlights ranged from an unmounted 3.15-carat Brazilian Paraiba tourmaline at $106,250 to a Harry Winston sapphire ring at $106,250, alongside multiple six-figure diamond rings.
The result underscores Heritage Auctions’ position as a leading venue to sell fine jewelry, colored diamonds and celebrity-owned pieces.
