Phyllis McGuire, lead singer and youngest of the “The McGuire Sisters” trio, was born in Middletown, Ohio on Valentine’s Day, 1931.  By the age of 4 she was singing with her two older sisters, Dorothy and Christine.

When Phyllis was 21, she and her sisters rose to fame with a string of 1950’s hit singles including “Sincerely” (1954), “Goodnight Sweetheart” (1954), “Picnic” (1956), and “Sugartime” (1957), each selling over a million copies.  All told, the McGuire sisters had 30 hit records propelling them to one of the most popular groups of the 1950s.

They appeared on Arthur Godfrey’s Talent Scouts, as well as his other variety shows for seven years. The sisters traveled together across America performing for large audiences. Their appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1968 was their last public group appearance until they reunited in 1986.  The trio continued performing in Las Vegas, Atlantic City and Manhattan for the next 20 years.

In 1994, the McGuire Sisters were inducted into the National Broadcasting Hall of Fame and in 2001, into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame.  They performed for five presidents, Queen Elizabeth II, and in 2004 on a PBS special, “Magic Moments: The Best of ‘50s Pop.” The three sisters, in their 70’s at the time, impressed with their timeless harmonic vocals, once again magically entertaining those in attendance.

Phyllis lived in a showcase mansion in Las Vegas for several decades complete with an Eiffel Tower rising through the roof, themed rooms, her own beauty parlor, and her treasured swan-filled moat. The Estate of Phyllis McGuire’s jewelry collection is a time capsule consisting of gems from the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s.

Heritage Auctions was pleased to present exquisite pieces from Ms. McGuire’s jewelry collection in our recently completed auction – The Estate of Phyllis McGuire Signature Auction (#8066).
