The May 13 event drew more than 400 bidders for 148 lots, generating $2.45 million in total sales. The auction was Heritage’s third major offering in the category in two years, further establishing the house as an international leader in Russian decorative arts.
- A pair of Imperial porcelain vases from the period of Alexander I realized $162,500; the only other known pair resides in the State Hermitage Museum.
- A Russian Imperial gold-inlaid blackened steel presentation Kinjal, once given to Prince Robert, Duc de Chartres, sold for $75,000, a record for its type.
- Works from the Fabergé Heritage Collection, including a gem-set miniature bratina purchased by Grand Duke Michael Alexandrovich and Grand Duchess Olga Alexandrovna, also drew strong interest.
“Collectors responded to works with Imperial provenance, exceptional histories and high quality,” said Nick Nicholson, Heritage’s Director of Russian Works of Art.
The world-record result for Rückert’s punch service underscores that when it comes to selling Fabergé masterpieces, Heritage Auctions is the best place for consignors to achieve landmark results.
