Also breaking records was a 1969 Rolling Stones Altamont Speedway concert poster, which sold for $93,750, the highest price ever achieved for a Stones poster. The elusive artifact from the infamous California festival came from the collection of noted music memorabilia collector David Swartz.
“I’ll be honest, I was so excited I lost sleep both nights when our Altamont and then Elvis Indy went for multiples of what we had projected,” said Pete Howard, Heritage’s Director of Concert Posters. “These two dark horses… blew the doors off the place with spectacular finishes.”
The April event totaled $2.1 million, with posters accounting for $1.8 million, the highest-ever auction total for concert posters. The results underscored the growing appreciation for the artistry and history behind these cultural touchstones.
As Howard noted, “Heritage is extremely pleased and humbled to have just concluded the richest concert poster auction in history.”
These historic results reaffirm that when it comes to selling rare and record-breaking concert posters, Heritage Auctions is the best place for consignors to achieve top prices.
