Editor Pick 1

These sancai-glazed pottery figures of Lokapalas from the Tang dynasty exemplify the era’s mastery of ceramic art and its spiritual significance. The figures, each poised on a recumbent bull, embody the strength associated with Lokapalas, who were believed to guard the directions and protect the Buddhist faith. With one arm raised, they command attention, their postures conveying both power and grace. The exquisite glaze, with its splashes of green and amber, enhances their striking appearance.

Editor Pick 2

A defining figure on the pin-up art scene, Alberto Vargas became a household name when he joined Esquire magazine as lead pin-up illustrator. Vargas is best remembered for his World War II-era pin-ups for Esquire, like this 1942 calendar study that puts his signature style on full display. With the subject’s barely there yet luxurious gown and dramatic single hair bow drawing the viewer’s eyes to the redhead’s gaze, this image is the picture of glamour.

Editor Pick 3

This exquisite Aldo Cipullo brooch vividly captures the visage of Viracocha, the revered Incan creator god. Crafted from 18k gold, it boasts approximately 1.60 carats of full-cut diamonds and is adorned with carved black onyx, emerald cabochons and round-shaped rubies. The brooch is a wonderful example of the Italian-born jewelry designer’s innovative work, which attracted well-known clients such as Sophia Loren, Liza Minnelli, Elizabeth Taylor, Pierre Cardin, Frank Sinatra and Richard Burton.
