The word “love” made its first appearance in a Robert Indiana painting in 1961, when the artist completed 4-Star Love, featuring four stars stacked above the word that would eventually catapult him to international fame. After experimenting with a series of rubbings in which he created compositions of stacked letters, the design evolved into canvas paintings of hard-edged color variants. The universality of Indiana’s Love works, like this 1967 screenprint, continues to resonate with audiences worldwide.

U.S. Coins
Although other silver coins, such as the 1804 dollar, are more famous, the 1794 silver dollar is our nation’s first silver coin and therefore our most historic silver coin. When the Mint began operations early the previous year, copper cents and half cents were the only coins struck, starting in March 1793 with the Chain cents. This specimen hails from The Eric Lane Collection of Early U.S. Dollars, an impressive 41-lot trove of early dollars of every date and type.
