The one-of-one Dynasty Black card nearly doubled the Ohtani record and helped lead a nearly $9 million sports card event.

Heritage Auctions’ March 29 Spring Sports Card Catalog Auction realized $8,975,518, led by a modern baseball card tied directly to one of the sport’s most difficult milestones.
The top lot was the 2024 Topps 50/50 Shohei Ohtani (Dynasty Black-Autographed Relic Card) #SOD1 PSA Mint 9, PSA/DNA Auto 9 – #’d 1/1, which sold for $1,067,500. The one-of-one card celebrates Ohtani becoming the first player in Major League Baseball history to record at least 50 home runs and 50 stolen bases in the same season, and Heritage noted that the result nearly doubled the previous record for an Ohtani card.
Vintage baseball remained a major force in the sale. The 1909-11 T206 Hindu Red Ty Cobb (Red Portrait) PSA VG-EX 4 reached $317,200, driven by its rare red Hindu advertising back and its position among only a handful of known examples. A high-grade early pitching rarity, the 1903 E107 Breisch-Williams Cy Young SGC EX 5, brought $213,500.
Basketball also had a defining result with the 1984 Star Co. Michael Jordan Rookie #101 BGS Mint 9, which sold for $103,700. The card predates Jordan’s 1986 Fleer rookie and is widely treated by advanced collectors as one of the most historically significant cards from his debut NBA season.
The auction’s depth mattered. Heritage reported 12 additional cards reaching six figures, showing demand not only for the newest milestone cards but also for early Hall of Fame issues, scarce backs and top-condition examples across multiple sports.

Heritage connected a one-of-one modern Ohtani record card with bidders also competing for Ty Cobb, Cy Young and Michael Jordan, creating the kind of broad sports-card marketplace that can support record results across eras.
